Assistant Coach - Goalkeepers
Matt Walker joined the Cardinals for the 2015 season in his first year of duty as the Men's & Women's Soccer Goalkeepers Coach.
In the 2015 season, Walker helped coach the SVSU men's goalkeeper Alex Bouillennec to a 0.98 Goals-Against Average, which ranks second in the GLIAC and a .756 Save Percentage, which is fourth in GLIAC.
On the women's team, Walker helped the Cardinals to an overal save percentage of .717 and GAA of 1.63.
Walker brings with him a solid coaching background, which includes three years coaching for Waza FC, two years as the goalkeeper director for the club's East, North and Tri-Cities locations. Walker spent five seasons as the goalkeeper coach for Detroit Country Day High School as well for both the men's and women's programs.
Matt played collegiately at Oakland University most recently, where he played one season under current Golden Grizzly head coach Eric Pogue on a team that claimed the Summit League Championship. Prior to Oakland, he played at Olivet Nazarene University for two seasons. During his time at Nazarene, he made 73 saves, allowing just 13 goals in 1,922:06 minutes between the posts. He had a .608 goals against average and .849 save percentage while posting a record of 12-6-3 overall in 22 appearances.
Tyler Channell joins the SVSU women's soccer coaching staff for the upcoming 2016 season. He transitions over the the coaching side after a great career for the SVSU men's team, ranging from 2011-2015.
Channell earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Year honors twice during his career, being honored as a sophomore in 2013 and again as a senior in the 2015 campaign.
Volunteer Assistant Coach
Ross Gibson joined the SVSU men's soccer coaching staff in 2015. In his first season, Gibson helped coach the Cardinals to an overall record of 15-4-1 and 12-2-0 in the GLIAC.
Gibson most recently served as the Director of Football / Coaching for the Freeland Force and Northland United F.C. Gibson holds a UEFA B Coaching License, as well as many other certifications. He maintains FA Levels 1 & 2, FA Youth Modules 1, 2 and 3 and has been certified in Prozone performance, statistical and video analysis on the 1 and 2 levels.
Gibson has spent time coaching for Hull City F.C., Scunthorpe United F.C. and North Ferribly United as well.
Student Assistant Coach
Patrick Frank joins the women's team after serving as the Head Coach of the SVSU Women's Club Soccer team for the last three years, earning the right to play in the highly competitive W-MASC conference against such rivals as: the University of Michigan, Michigan State University, Ferris State University, Indiana University, etc.
Frank has been in the Strength & Conditioning Field for 9 years (10 come December) specializing in sport performance. He holds the following coaching certifications: Certified CrossFit Trainer (CF-L3), and USAW Level 1 Performance Coach.
Patrick is a former member of the SVSU Track & Field team, specializing in the 400m and 800m races (2011-2013). He is an Exercise Science major, with a minor in Athletic Coaching, graduating in December of 2016
